The new conversational messaging dream-team: Sinch + MessengerPeople

Sinch AB (publ), a global leader in cloud communications for mobile customer engagement, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire MessengerPeople, a leading German software-as-as-service platform for conversational messaging.

Founded in Munich in 2015, MessengerPeople offers a cloud-based software suite that makes it easy for businesses to engage with their customers via messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram and Apple Business Chat (iMessage). A pioneer in its field, MessengerPeople was amongst the very first innovators to recognize the potential of next generation messaging channels and build software tools for businesses to leverage these capabilities.

In the future, we want to grow even faster worldwide.

Starting out as a pure WhatsApp newsletter tool, we have been constantly developing ever since. Awards for the “best software solution” (DISQ) or as “Innovator of the Year” (BrandEins) underlined our innovative strength again and again. In addition, awards for rapid growth (Deloitte & Financial Times) demonstrate our economic success in recent years.

Today, more than 700 companies use MessengerPeople for their communication – be it for customer service, marketing, conversational commerce or HR. In recent years, we have concentrated on the German market.

Mobile messaging is simple, quick and interactive – and used by people all over the world. Empowering businesses to use messaging is a tremendous market opportunity, and teaming up with Sinch gives us the size to pursue it on a global scale.”

Franz Buchenberger, co-founder & CEO of MessengerPeople.

Sinch is the perfect partner for this!

What does the acquisition of Sinch and MessengerPeople look like?

I’m very impressed with the MessengerPeople team and their success in bringing innovative products to market. Most businesses have yet to discover the benefits of conversational messaging, and together we are superbly placed to win in this market as uptake now begins to accelerate”,

Oscar Werner, CEO of Sinch.

With the acquisition, MessengerPeople becomes part of Sinch. Our software-as-a-service solution complements Sinch’s API-based offering for larger enterprises and channel partners. The acquisition builds on Sinch’s ongoing organic investments and previous acquisitions in the conversational messaging space.

The goals of integrating MessengerPeople into the Sinch family are cross-sales, accelerated geographic expansion, and product integration with Sinch’s communications APIs plus associated Sinch applications.

What will change for MessengerPeople (new) customers?

There are still various formalities to be completed, but we expect the transaction to be formally closed in Q4 2021.
For now, nothing will change for new and existing customers. MessengerPeople will continue to operate as a German company with all privacy and other legal requirements!

In terms of product and pricing, we will be able to offer an even broader range of services for both larger enterprise customers and smaller companies at the beginning of next year.
